Birthday Pie

My mother loves key lime pie, so for her birthday one year she wanted a birthday pie instead of cake. I went and got a store bought key lime pie, but I was not satisfied, because it wasn’t decorated. So I added happy birthday candles, her favorite miniature candy bars and I curled some ribbon to add to the pie.  This is a quick, easy way to spruce up a cake, or even a pie.

Cookie Monster Cake

My cousin wanted me to make her a cookie monster birthday cake. I was intimated at first after seeing many ideas online, but this cake was one of the easiest cakes I have ever made. I made a 2 layered round cake and frosting the middle layer. Then I took a grass tip (tip 233) and made the fur. I used the largest round tip and made the eyes and mouth then I added the cookies. I do warn you if you are decorating the cake the night before do not decorate with black or white frosting because it will bleed. I added the eyes and mouth the day of the party.

Scrub’s Cake

My brother loves the show Scrubs. So one year for his birthday I made him a scrubs cake. I lot of the time my cakes are put together based on what I could find. Originally I wanted to do a Dexter cake (cartoon), but it did not end up working. So I ended up looking at the toys and found a doctor’s kit and the scrubs themed cake came together.

I first made a double layered round cake, frosting it, and did a shell border (tip 21). Then at the dollar general I found a child’s play doctor kit with plastic toys, I also found gum shaped as bandages. I then printed out the picture and decorated the cake.

Cinderella Cake and Cupcakes

One day my mother and I were at a thrift store and found this cute Cinderella, Fairy Godmother and a horse and carriage background. As soon as I saw it  I had to have it and for one dollar I would be sorry later if I had not picked it up.  A few days latter I had to make a cake for a little girl’s birthday party and I was glad I picked it up.

I first baked an oval cake and frosting it. Then I put a tip 21 (shell border tip) and did the border. Finally I took a small amount of frosting and mixed a lot of powdered sugar in it to make it the consistency where I could sculpt it. Then I made it the shape of pumpkins. For the Cupcakes I  frosting them with the tip 1m.

Birthday Cake!

My favorite part of a birthday is the cake, but it is expensive to buy a cute cake from the bakery and sometimes their cakes don’t taste good. I use to be intimidated to bake cakes, but Wilton.com has many videos that will help you learn to decorate cakes. This tutorial is the way I like to do this cake, but there are alternative ways to decorate it. Try using m&ms as a border, add sprinkles on it, or use different noise makers (The dollar store has cute princess ones). So here is a cake that you can do easily at home and people will be amazed at you talent.

A cake
Noise Makers
Candles

Cake Decorating tip 21

First frosting a cake, I chose a two layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.

Pipe a shell border with your tip 21. If you are unsure how to do a shell border visit Wilton.com.

Put the noise makers on the cake

Then put the candles on the cake.
